Common Problems in Landfill Leachate Treatment

Advocating green development of economy, landfill leachate treatment has gradually become the focus of attention. In the process of landfill leachate treatment, because it contains too many harmful substances and is difficult to degrade, how to use advanced landfill leachate treatment technology to improve the rate of landfill leachate treatment, save energy consumption and develop resource utilization, we should first summarize the existing problems of landfill leachate treatment, and solve these problems accordingly.

I. Denitrification

Everyone knows that the high content of ammonia nitrogen is one of the most important characteristics of landfill leachate. Especially for aged landfills over 10 years old, the ammonia nitrogen value is usually as high as 3000-4000 mg/L. The actual ammonia nitrogen value detected in a domestic landfill is more than 5000 mg/L. We may also often hear that the total nitrogen in effluent exceeds the standard in many leachate treatment projects.

II. Reducing Energy Consumption

Our society is developingrapidlybut the resources are increasingly scarce. The energy consumption of leachate treatment project is very high, so reducing the energy consumption of leachate treatment must be implemented.

III. Secondary Pollution

If some accessory products produced by leachate treatment process are not properly treated, serious secondary pollution will occur. For example, ammonia gas is absorbed by sulfuric acid in ammonia stripping process. How to dispose of ammonium sulfate produced is a difficult problem, and improper disposal will cause secondary pollution. Other residues, such as those from evaporation and direct membrane filtration processes, contain not only a large amount of salt and heavy metals, but also extremely high concentrations of organic pollutants. These residues must be properly disposed and should not be stacked or discharged at will.
