The secondary steam can still heat the material when it is passed into another evaporator as long as the operation pressure and boiling point of the latter evaporator is lower than that of the former evaporator.This operation mode is multi-effect evaporator.

Multi-effect Evaporation Theory

In the evaporation production, there is a large output of secondary steam that contains huge amount of latent heat.These steam should be recycled for use. The secondary steam can still heat the material when it is passed into another evaporator as long as the operation pressure and boiling point of the latter evaporator is lower than that of the former evaporator.This operation mode is multi-effect evaporator.

Each evaporator of the multiple effect evaporator is called one effect. The evaporator that passes the heated steam is called the first effect.The evaporator that uses the secondary steam of the first effect as the heating agent is called the second effect, and so on. The purpose of using a multi-effect evaporator is to save the consumption of heated steam. In theory, 1 kg of heated steam can evaporate approximately 1 kg of water.

Due to heat loss, and the latent heat of vaporization of the water in the separator is larger than the latent heat of condensation in the heating chamber, to evaporate 1 kg water need more than 1kg steam.According to experience, the economics of steam (U=W/D), single effect is 0.91; double effect is 1.76; three effects are 2.5: four effects are 3.33; five effects are 3.71. It can be seen that with the increase of the efficiency, the growth rate of W/D gradually decreases. However, as the effect increases, the temperature difference loss of heat transfer increases.This make the production intensity of the evaporator greatly to reduce, and the equipment cost to multiply. When the effectiveness is increased to a certain extent, the steam cost saved by increasing the effectiveness may be not worth the added equipment cost.


Multi-effect Evaporation Process

In the multi-effect evaporation, the first effect is heated by the primary steam and the secondary steam generated from the first effect is used as the second-effect heating steam.The heating chamber of the second-effect is equivalent to the condenser of first-effect.The secondary steam produced by the second effect is used as the heating steam of third-effect , so that a plurality of evaporators are connected in series to form a multi-effect evaporation. Since the operating pressure of the evaporation chamber in the multi-effect operation reduces gradually,the end effect belt of the multi-effect evaporator connect to the vacuum device. The heating steam temperature and the fluid boiling point of each effect are also sequentially decreased.But the concentration of the completion liquid is increased by the effect. The secondary steam of the last effect enters the condenser and removed after it condensed into water.
