Fluorine Removal Process

Introduction:

There are several treatment methods for high-concentration fluorine-containing wastewater at home and abroad, and there are two common methods:adsorption and precipitation. The precipitation method is mainly applied to the treatment of industrial fluorine-containing wastewater, and the adsorption method is mainly to treat drinking water. There are also methods such as freezing, ion exchange, ultrafiltration, fluorine removal, electrocoagulation, electrodialysis, and reverse osmosis.
Detailed Introduction

I. Process introduction

The most widely used methods in the industry are chemical precipitation and flocculation. The chemical precipitation method is generally used for treating high-concentration fluorine-containing wastewater, and is widely used because of its simple operation and low cost effect. Contrary to the chemical precipitation method, the coagulation sedimentation method is only applicable to wastewater treatment with low fluorine content. The high concentration fluorine-containing wastewater is firstly treated by chemical precipitation method, and then coagulation sedimentation method is carried out to remove fluorine.

II. Process principle

1、Aluminum Sulfate Coagulation Sedimentation

1.1Theory

(1)Adsorption.During the process of aluminum salt flocculation fluorine removal, amorphous Al(OH)3 will be generated with a large surface area.It will carry out hydrogen bond adsorption to fluorine. As the fluoride ion radius is small, and the electrone gativity is strong, this adsorption method is easy to produce.

(2)Ion exchange. The radius of F- and OH- is similar and their charge are the same.in the process of flocculation and defluoridation of aluminum salt, after adding to the water, the polycation such as Al304 and the amorphous Al(OH)3 precipitate formed after hydrolysis Where OH- and F- are exchanged.

(3)Complexation precipitation.F- can form a complex with Al3+.The complexes will precipitate to remove fluorine.

1.2 Fluoride removal effect of aluminum sulfate

The reason for the poor defluoridation effect of aluminum sulfate is mainly due to the poor sedimentation effect of the aluminum hydroxide colloid produced by using aluminum sulfate as a coagulant, and the required settling time is long, and the F-capture adsorbed on the aluminum hydroxide colloid is Desorption. In the process of coagulation, the coagulant polyacrylamide (PMA) is added in order to produce more charged parts on the aluminum hydroxide colloid, which is beneficial to the adsorption of F-, and at the same time due to the repulsive force of the same charge of the charged part. Extending the polymer chain to the maximum length facilitates bridging and improves the coagulation effect.

2.Calcium fFluoride Precipitation to Separate Fluoride

For high-concentration fluorine-containing industrial wastewater, calcium salt precipitation method is generally employed, that is, lime is added to the wastewater to cause precipitation of fluoride ions and calcium ions which turn to the form CaF2. The advantages of this process is simple, convenient and low cost.
